Lego achievement
Paschalis Alexandridis, associate professor of chemical engineering at the University of Buffalo, receives the 2002 Sigma Xi Young Investigator Award for his work on using molecules and particles as 'Lego' to build materials at the nanoscale. The biennial award from the scientific honors organization recognizes scientific accomplishments and the ability to communicate with the general public.
Inventive award
Eli Fromm, professor of electrical and computer engineering at Drexel University, receives the first Bernard M. Gordon Prize for engineering and technology education inventiveness. Fromm has successfully pushed engineering education away from its traditional focus on course content to take on board development of human potential and ideas from other disciplines.
