Background: Escherichia coli, particularly the adherent-invasive E. coli (AIEC) pathovar, has been increasingly implicated in the ethiopathogenesis of Crohn's disease (CD). We describe the richness, abundance, diversity, and pathogenic features of E. coli and AIEC strains that colonize the intestina
