It is helpful to consider the mind and the computer as two separate information domains. Each has a separate system of rules that guide behavior. The interaction between the two is characterized as an interplay between rule systems. In this view, there should be interactions which are optimal and others which are not. To understand this, the first task is to identify the rules that operate in each domain. The next is to see how they interact. It is concluded that rules of the mind which give rise to what is generally termed 'intuition' is altogether compatible with rules of computation. This, in turn, suggests computational systems capable of independent 'intuitive' processing on the one hand, and other computational systems which can serve to augment human intuition.
