✦ Synopsis

In a typical system identiΓΏcation problem, we wish to accurately model the input/output behaviour of an unknown dynamical system. Consider the following approach to such a problem:

(1) Choose a class of models.

(2) Gather input/output data.

(3) Use the data to choose a model.

The key issues in this general approach are approximation, estimation, and computation.
