✦ Synopsis

There are times when I do not understand why I have this disease. There are times when I feel like giving up-giving into the pain and simply letting it take over not just my body, but my mind as well. But I find I cannot do that. For I am constantly and persistently called out of myself by those around me who seem to feel that my words bring hope into their lives. They do not realize how much their response brings hope back into mine.

Diana Hayes, quoted by Jane Redmont, When in Doubt Sing, p. 155
