Section of the current issue of the Journal is devoted to papers presented during a Symposium on vaccination against hepatitis A, which was held during the 6th International Congress for Infectious Diseases in April 1994 in the beautiful and historical city of Prague.
Viral hepatitis in all its forms, and hepatitis A in particular, is a major public health problem in all parts of the world with considerable morbidity and mortality. In many parts of the world hepatitis A is highly endemic with infection in as many as 90% of the population. The Symposium on immunisation against hepatitis A was therefore both timely and welcome, and new data on an improved vaccine were presented and discussed. An additional innovative feature of the Symposium, which proved to be highly successful, was full audience participation by the use of an individual interactive key pad system.
The Editors hope, therefore, that our readers will find useful this collection of papers.
