It is a great pleasure for me to welcome so many valuable experts in the field of Cultural Heritage here presenting their lectures at a much appreciated School organised by my dear colleague Varella in Greece. Greece is a country where -as in Italy -cultural heritage play not only an historical and cultural role, but also an economical one: they must be protected and preserved. The problems which stay behind this double kind of intervention are well complicated and what is worst dynamically changing. This school has put a well clear point on many of the involved themes from monitoring to chemical alterations from characterisation (according to the different adopted materials) to the interaction of cultural heritage with environment from the outside to inside well sheltering cultural heritage site problems.
Methodological and investigative papers are here presented so conjugating the two souls of this science. The two sides of Mediterranean area are both present so the issue representing an occasion too of scientific integration.
