β¦ Synopsis
It is my pleasure to launch an exciting and entirely new department for the Journal of Organizational Behavior. Foreshadowed in Ashkanasy (2009), the department will be known as ''The Researcher's Notebook,'' and will be jointly edited by Thomas A. Wright and Douglas G. Bonett. Articles published in the Notebook are intended to contribute to development of improved methods in the Organizational Behavior (OB) field. Wright and Bonett (2010) outline the mission and scope of the department in the following article, and note in particular that they ''will publish only those methodological articles that are relevant and understandable to organizational scholars'' (p. 773).
Methodological issues have traditionally been the bane of researchers in OB, and much of the methods literature has tended to be highly technical. Our intention is for Notebook articles to provide an accessible medium for interchange of ideas in this important aspect of our work. The first in the series is published in this issue (Aguinis & Gottfredson, 2010). In it, the authors describe how to deal with the tricky issue of estimating interaction effects in multiple regression analysis. The second article in the series will be published in Volume 31 (Bonett & Wright, in press), and will relate to sample size requirements for multiple regression analysis. Now the department is launched, we are hopeful that OB scholars will respond by submitting their proposals to the Researcher's Notebook editors, as set out in Wright and Bonett (2010) following this editorial.
I would like to express my deep appreciation to Tom and Doug for all their work in getting this exciting new initiative under way.
