โฆ Synopsis
USES
I "leukoplakia" as a diagnosis for intraoral lesions, he obviously understands the term as he uses it; yet to clinicians and other pathologists it might carry various implications. That "leukoplakia" is used by some pathologists as a diagnosis is undisputed, but the question under consideration here is whether it should be so used. Novak and Woodruff 10 said that the term as applied to lesions of the vulva is surrounded by confusion, and we, at the Institute of Pathology of the University of Tennessee, feel that as applied to intraoral lesions it is not only surrounded, but infiltrated, by confusion. T o illustrate this and to avoid further confusion, leukoplakia will be divided into 4 separately defined entities according to specific criteria for diagnoses listed in various textbooks on pathology.
