Background. Exact estimation of a tumor's size and definition of adequate resection margins in carcinomas of the tongue are often difficult because of the tumor's extension and deep infiltration. Methods. We developed a method that allows intraoperative visualization and marking of tumor margins: i

β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
The applications of intraoperative scanning are described in the arterial and pancreaticoβbiliary trees. The findings in 85 patients and 10 postmortem specimens are reviewed. Specific scanning techniques are described, and the results are compared with conventional radiological methods and actual operative findings. A critical comparison of both techniques is presented with illustrations of the unique capacities of intraoperative ultrasound, particularly in the pancreas.
