## Abstract Electronic excitation energy transfer (EET) is described theoretically for the chromophore complex **P**~4~ formed by a butanediamine dendrimer to which four pheophorbide‐__a__ molecules are covalently linked. To achieve a description with atomic resolution, and to account for the effec

✦ Synopsis
The effect of resonant intramolecular interactions upon vibrational energy transfer is studied using classical and quantum perturbation theory. It is shown that cancellations attributed previously to quantum interference may equally well be ascribed to a classical mechanism.
