β¦ Synopsis
The effect of intracerebroventricular (ICV) bombesin on bile and gastric acid secretion was examined in the rat. ICV bombesin (10 pg in 10 pl) inhibited basal biliary volume by 27% and bile bicarbonate by 52% of control values, while gastric acid secretion was decreased by 75%. These results provide evidence for central mechanisms for the control of gastrointestinal function.

It has been proposed that a microtubule-dependent transport of vesicles derived from the Golgi apparatus may play a role in biliary secretion of bile salts and other cholephilic anions. To test this hypothesis, we examined the influence of colchicine and vinblastine, two microtubule inhibitors, on d
We tested the hypothesis that progesterone, an inhibitor of cholesterol esterification in liver microsomes, increases biliary cholesterol output by increasing the availability of cholesterol. Initial bile samples of 20 min were obtained from acute bile fistula rats after seven daily doses of progest
