✦ Synopsis


SDeoxy-Sfluoroarbekacin

(1) and 5-deoxy-5,5difluoroarbekacin

(2) showed inter-unit, through-space 'H-l'F spin-spin couplings at the signals for H-l', 4", 5", 6"a and 6"b with F-5cq. These couplings were detected by a new NMR method, 'H-detected 2D rH-"F chemical shift correlation spectroscopy. These two compounds also displayed interunit, through-space 13C-lgF couplings at the resonances for C-Y and 5" with F-Seq. These couplings were corroborated by 1D 13C(1HX1gF) triple-resonance techniques. Triple-resonance 13C-detected 2D r3C-"F COSY experiments were also carried out. The interunit conformational information obtained with the through-space 'H-lgF and 13C-"F couplings was further supported by heteronuclear 'H{"F) NOE experiments.
