✦ Synopsis

Crosses were performed with the tetraploid, Guatemalan endemic species Hordeum guatemalense Von Bothmer etal. and nine other species of Hordeum. Hybrids were raised in five combinations. H. guatemalense is reproductively isolated from the other taxa. The genome is most closely related to the North American tetraploids H. brachyantherum Nevksi and H.jubatum L. and like these species, H. guatemalense is probably an alloploid with two moderately related genomes.
