β¦ Synopsis
Application . A procedure for measuring germination speed that is independent of completeness of germination is described . The method provides insight into germination patterns of different families by separating effects of germination speed and viability . Differential germination speed among families induces selection in cases where thinning from multiple germinants in bulked seed lots is required . This may result in unexpected changes in genetic diversity of the crop . Clonal sowing avoids this selection pressure .

Merremia gangetia Linn. (Cuf) is one of the most important weeds invading cultivated lands of India. Temperature, both high (45 ~ C) and low (15 ~ C) exhibit a definite role in development of the weed, particularly during germination. Higher temperatures (45 ~ C) during dry storage appeared to be th
Syntheses of a series of novel butenolides as seed germination stimulants are described. The key steps include the cyclization reaction of enamine 4 to form a pyran ring, the efficient halogenating reaction and the selective lithiation reaction of butenolides.
