Mitochondrial DNA analysis in casework
The FSS has been analysing mtDNA in Forensic Casework since 1992. The first cases were concerned with identification of human remains. A criminal casework unit opened in Birmingham in October 1994. A second unit opened in London in January 1998. To date mtDNA has been analysed in some 150 cases.
