✦ Synopsis
In this paper the connection between the work of Kramers on the escape of particles over potential barriers and that of Brown on magnetic stability is briefly outlined. The case of magnetic stability in the context of an axially symmetric potential is also briefly outlined. The need for interpolation formulae between various regimes of approximation is discussed, and those discovered to date are given.
