✦ Synopsis

Magnetostriction and magnetization measurements on nonsuperconducting TbNi 2 B 2 C crystals and on superconducting Tb 0:3 Y 0:7 Ni 2 B 2 C single crystals were carried out in magnetic fields up to 8 T. Besides the antiferromagnetic transition at 15.5 K and the ferromagnetic transition at 9 K, isothermal scans on TbNi 2 B 2 C crystals show further three metamagnetic transitions, which vanish for temperatures greater than 10 K. Isofield measurements on the Tb 0:3 Y 0:7 Ni 2 B 2 C single crystals show a antiferromagnetic transition at 3.6 K. Furthermore our investigations indicate a ferromagnetic transition at 1.26 K. Investigations perpendicular and parallel to the AE0 0 1ae-axis of the Tb 0:3 Y 0:7 Ni 2 B 2 C single crystals show a pronounced anisotropic behavior.

Polycrystalline samples RSr2Cu2.7Mo0.307 \_ 8 with R = Y, Pr, Gd, and Tb were synthesized and studied by means of powder X-ray diffraction, electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and specific-heat measurements. All four samples form a perovskite-layer structure with a tetragonal symmetry.

While CeCu 6 does not show long-range magnetic order, the intersite magnetic correlations in CeCu 6 developing below 1 K are destroyed in a magnetic field of B = 2 T as evidenced by a distinct maximum in the derivative of the magnetization M, dM/dB versus B, which vanishes for T > 0.6 K. This metama
