Isle of Elba, Italy, 17th to 19th May 1972

THE SYMPOSIUM, organised by the Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche 'Mario Negri' of Milan, was held in the 'Oasi S . Martino', Porto Ferraio and the proceedings were opened by a paper presented by Dr Hammar of Stockholm. A total of 31 papers were presented and many new ideas and techniques in this important field were introduced and discussed. Particular topics worthy of mention were several papers discussing the technique of mass fragmentography, the use of g.1.c.-m.s. in studies related to drug abuse and the assessment of drug levels in biological sources, and also to trace the metabolic pathways of drugs. A number of papers dealt with the use of the technique in controlling industrial processes and determining the structures of contaminants.
