✦ Synopsis

Its aim is to bring together important research on plasticity, thus avoiding for interested readers the inconvenience of having to sift through different publications. Its scope is to cover all aspects of plastic deformation of isotropic and anisotropic solids, including the thermodynamics of plasticity and fracture, continuum theory, and macroscopic as well as microscopic phenomena.

The journal deals with single crystals as well as with polycrystalline metals, ceramics, rocks, composites, polymers a.s.0. It contains research papers, review articles, research notes, letters to the editor, and academic advertisements and is well produced.

However, librarians might be suspicious since the number of journals is still increasing whereas the budget is not. The present journal is an example of the continuing process of specialization which can be observed with scientific literature in general. Differentiation between plastic and elastic behaviour fits in with the fields of interest of numerous research workers. But libraries may be less inclined to subscribe to a journal the audience of which is smaller than, say, for general mechanical properties.

So, its distribution will strongly depend on the refereeing and publication schedule. Anyway, research laboratories dealing with plasticity should pay attention to this high-standard publication.
