✦ Synopsis

Internal friction and Young's modulus measurements have been made on Fe and Mn doped b-NiAl alloys ranging from 4 to 20 at% Fe and from 5 to 15 at% Mn. It is found that the temperature dependent internal friction exhibits the same type of damping peak that is peculiar to a thermoelastic martensitic phase transformation. The internal friction peak is accompanied by characteristic anomalies on the temperature dependencies of Young's modulus. The effect of Ni content, rate of temperature change and duration of isothermal exposure on internal friction peak parameters and elastic anomalies has been investigated.
