We report a new diagnostic technique based on resonant four-wave-mixing spectroscopy of the two-photon ls-+2s transition in atomic hydrogen. Observations including Doppler-free spectral lineshapes and saturation behavior are related to models for the nonlinear optical processes. Two-photon wave-mixi

A coherent backscattering of intense laser light by two isotropic atoms is studied in the helicity preserving polarization channel. It is demonstrated that single scattering has a non-negligible contribution to the background intensity Lรฐhร at small angles h with respect to the backwards direction.
