An atmospheric pressure splitter was purchased from and modified by SGE Instruments, Houston, Texas. Modification included lengthening the entire interface to 23.5 cm. A 0-10 mL1 min mass flow controller (SGE Instruments) was used to provide He gas makeup to the splitter. A 20.7 cm X 110 pm i.d. fused silica tube was used for linking the splitter to the ion source of the MS (see Figure3).AshortlengthofDB-l, 1 pnfilm thickness,0.25-mm i.d.
