Busak+Shamban in Germany has signed a four-year agreement with the tractor manufacturer Fendt to supply special high-pressure rotary seals for the latter's innovative Vario range of tractors.
The Vario tractor is designed for agricultural, forestry and public works. The step-less hydraulic transmission includes a high-performance pump driving two adjustable hydromotors on a single shaft. In one set of gears there are between six and nine seals of two different diameters. Each seal has a rotary seal consisting of three individual components: a PTFE anti-friction ring, two thrust rings, and a pre-tensioning element. The transmission requires a rotary seal with optimum performance at pressures up to 500 bar with temperatures to 130Β°C within a sealed-for-life unit. Situated within swiveling rotary units, the back-up ring version was required for installation within closed grooves, for vol-ume production line assembly. A special high-performance plastic was developed to meet these demanding performance requirements; the two companies have been working closely together from the original concept in 1990 to product launch in 2005.
