โœฆ Synopsis

Pressure-volume-temperature measurement during the exfoliation of graphite intercalated with bromine showed that exfoliation involved the vaporization of l/8 of the intercalate, which formed aggregates of at least 8 monolayers thick on the average. At the point of completion of the vaporization, one vaporized intercalate monolayer was about 400 8, thick.

When the bromine residue in graphite is heated and cooled between 20" and 900ยฐC there is an emission of Brz over certain relatively small temperature ranges on both heating and cooling. It is shown that two of these emissions are associated with observed decreases in X-ray diffraction spacing betwee
