Abstract
This paper proposes an interactive Pareto‐optimal with advantage (IPOA) approach for solving the general capacitor planning problems. Two main contradictory concerns which involve cost and quality properties are considered for optimization. The IPOA approach can provide a valuable advantage Pareto‐optimal solution by following the intention of decision makers (DMs). The operating and expansion constraints of distribution feeders are considered for practical needs. Also, both fixed and switched types of capacitors are included. The effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed approach are demonstrated by a real feeder study in terms of solution quality and efficiency. The simulation results show that a flexible and advantageous Pareto‐optimal solution can be obtained by following the intention of DMs through the proposed approach.
