✦ Synopsis

Enthalpies of solution of urea in mixtures of N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) with various non-electrolytes (formamide, acetamide, propionamide, N-methylformamide, N-methylacetamide, N,N-dimethylacetamide, methanol, propanol, isobutanol, 2-methoxyethanol, 2-ethoxyethanol, 1,2-dimethoxyethane) were measured. The enthalpic pair interaction coefficients of urea with non-electrolytes in N,N-dimethylformamide, hxy were calculated and analysed from the point of view of interactions between urea and non-electrolyte molecules in DMF. Quantum-mechanical calculations referring to selected DMF -urea -non-electrolyte "clusters" were made.
