✦ Synopsis
A computer modelling method and Auger electron spectroscopy have been used to study the effect of cerium on the grain boundary segregation of phosphorus in ct-Fe. The result shows that cerium decreases the segregation of phosphorus in alloys with low phosphorus concentration but increases the segregation with high phosphorus concentration. The computer modelling indicates that the grain boundary structure and the interaction between cerium and phosphorus in high phosphorus alloys are different from those in low phosphorus alloys, which may be the mam mechanism by which cerium affects the segregation of phosphorus.
