โฆ Synopsis
Inter-critical heat treatment of low-alloy steels by producing a strong second phase in a ferrite matrix can provide attractive mechanical properties. In the present investigation, a low-alloy chrome-moly steel was subjected to different cooling rates after soaks at various inter-critical temperatures and thereafter its mechanical properties were evaluated and its microstructures documented. It was observed that the subject steel was reasonably responsive to such heat treatment in that a wide range of mechanical properties could be produced and a variety of two-phase distributions could be achieved.
