Tips Classroom from the ❒ From the comfortable surroundings of the classroom to the far reaches of their imaginations, ESL/EFL students will discover a range of activities for honing their literacy skills, from question syntax in Margaret Golibersuch's "Integrating Questions and Celebrations"; to creative writing in Angela Beck's "Writing Strategies Worksheet" and Alice Svendson's "Season It With Haiku"; to cross-cultural awareness in Christine Coombe's and Jackie Eadie's "Your Global Connections"; to discourse in Lively Nova's "101 Ways to Say Hello." S tudents who use good syntax with statements may still struggle with the syntax of questions. Although the students may have been taught how to formulate questions, their spontaneous oral questions can be so peculiarly organized that the listener is distracted from the meaning of the question. Opportunities for students to practice asking questions are often limited.

In this game of BINGO, students practice asking standard questions. In our class, we play the game to celebrate the birthday (or half-birthday) of each student. This allows us to play the game frequently throughout the year and gives students the opportunity to review basic question forms. I have used this game with adult ESL students during evening school and with middle school ESL students, both of whom enjoy playing it.
