β¦ Synopsis
In the past 20 years management scientists and economists have developed many computer programs to do estimation, simulation, or optimization. Most of these programs were developed on mainframe computers and stood alone as independent systems. In recent years, however, we have all realized the productivity gains which come from combining individual programs into integrated modeling systems which can be used to perform multiple tasks. This work gained impetus from the rapid development of microcomputers but now is also spreading to mainframes. The work was progressing rapidly enough that it seemed useful to arrange a conference at which some of the contributors to these developments could share their ideas.
