✦ Synopsis
Book Reviews
influence of materials, active and hybrid suspensions, testing and adjustment of suspensions. The book is clearly written and its analysis can be readily understood by even sophomore students in electrical engineering or physics. It contains a wealth of engineering design information on its specialized topic.
The title is somewhat misleading in that the book does not address the many magnetic suspension applications which have been developed outside the instrument area, such as in bearings for highspeed machines, levitation of urban and interuban transit vehicles, and levitation melting of metals and alloys. Permanent magnet materials are not considered. In spite of these limitations in scope, the book is a valuable addition to our engineering literature and will be welcomed by designers and students of design.
