This summary presents a personal perspective on progress since the last conferences on integral field or 3D spectroscopy and some of the technical highlights from the Durham workshop. We also look at the impact of integral field science and its growing output of refereed papers and assess some of the outstanding issues facing the next generation of integral field capabilities now being studied for the world's largest telescopes.
