Here are reported the first results of a new Monte Carlo calculation, based on FLUKA96, of hadron production by high energy muons deep underground.
The energy spectrum of those muons in the deep ocean (2 1000 m) that have been produced in the terrestrial atmosphere and have penetrated sea-water is calculated by Monte Carlo simulation and presented in a simplified form for easy use.
Atmospheric muons play an important role in underwater/ice neutrino detectors. A parameterisation of the flux of single and multiple muon events, of their lateral distribution and energy spectrum is presented. The kinematics parameters were modelled starting from a full Monte Carlo simulation of the
