✦ Synopsis
The difference between the alternate thin dark lines and bright stripes in this phase image is associated with the distinction in structure and property between side and main chains.
In summary, our XRD measurements and AFM observations concurrently verify that the main and side chains of P-4-BCMU macromolecules self-assemble into highly ordered structures at different length scales in the lyotropic phase and also during solidification from the lyotropic phase. The main chains of P-4-BCMU molecules form the lamellae corresponding to the average molecular length. The side chains form the lamellae, having a uniform thickness of about 2.7 nm.
