✦ Synopsis

An automated CARS N2-tbermometry capable of single-shot instantaneous mmperana~ measurements with a laser repetition rate of up to 20 Hz is described. A novel means of extracting a CARS signal in the three mixed-beam configuration by multiple reflections between two dichroics is proposed. An example of the measurement data is presented for a turbulent diffusion flame. The data of 100 events by the shot rate of 20 Hz exhibited a near-Gaussian distribution with an rms value of 93 Β° at a mean temperature of 1782K.

The application of nitrogen vibrational CARS thermometry to sooty, premixed, atmospheric pressure flames has been investigated using a Nd:YAG laser based system. It was found that laser-produced C2 radicals strongly absorb part of the fundamental band peak in the CARS spectrum. This was the most sev
