Simultaneous Control …

… of the number of walls and the diameter of carbon nanotubes is possible by using exposed-core/shell (ECS) catalyst nanoparticles. In their Communication on page 9904 ff. J. K. Kang and co-workers demonstrate that the confined size of this catalyst controls the diameter of the carbon nanotubes while the number of walls is controlled by the inactive area which consists of the iron nitride at the exposed-core region of the catalyst.
