โฆ Synopsis
Company News Innovations using polymers earn awards C ooper-Standard Automotive was honoured with three finalist awards in the Most Innovative Use of Plastics category at the annual awards ceremony held by the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Automotive Division.
The components, found in several new Nissan vehicles, use DuPont Zytel HTN PPA and have been designed to deliver significant cost, weight and performance improvements. The assemblies were redesigned in plastic to integrate multiple functions, simplify attachments and final assembly, and take advantage of the Cooper-Standard patented over-moulding and joining processes to significantly reduce part count and improve performance.
An electric water valve assembly reduces four component parts into one assembly for significant cost savings and 40% weight savings with improvements to internal and external leakage. An electric brushless pump incorporates 11 discrete components into one integrated assembly that cuts weight by onethird, streamlines packaging and increases motor life expectancy by 500%.
The third assembly, a transmission thermal valve, reduces the weight of multi-piece metal component by half, integrates multiple functions, eliminates multiple subassemblies and fasteners, streamlines processing, and eliminates metal crimp and secondary welding processes. Overmoulded brackets accomplish two functions -joint sealing and vehicle mounting interface helping eliminate potential leak paths.
