Numerical calculation shows that interference between single scattering and double scattering reduces the independentatom-model cross section by l/3 at 100 eV and l/7 at 5OOeV for Nz and by somewhat larger fractions for P4.

โฆ Synopsis
Resonances associated with excitation of K-shell electrons in N2 and CH4 are observed for the first time in the elastic scattering channel. In Nf, (1s~)~*(2pz)* resonant states associated with (Is0)-~(2prr) lII and 311 parent states are located at 401.95 and 399.3 eV. ln CH4, a resonant state of probable confguration (lsal)-'(3sa,)* is located at 283.75 eV.
