Die Streitfrage um die Art der aktiven Spezies bei der durch Bis(imino)pyridincobalt-Verbindungen katalysierten Ethylenpolymerisation wurde von P. J. Chirik et al. beantwortet. In der Zuschrift auf S. 8293 ff. berichten sie über die Synthese und Charakterisierung einer Familie von Alkylkationen, die als Einzelkomponentenkatalysatoren für die Ethylenpolymerisation dienen und bei denen es sich eindeutig um Co II -Spezies handelt, die durch ligandinduzierte Homolyse von Metall-Alkyl-Bindungen desaktiviert werden.
