Abstract

The relationship between redundant macroshearing and force parameters, related to a rational pass design, in a rotary 2‐cone roll seamless tube piercing process was investigated. Wax and lead billets were pierced in a range of working conditions involving decelerated, uniform and accelerated rates of flow, different plug advances, and four values of feed angles. The likely optimal piercing conditions are indicated.
