โฆ Synopsis
The inheritance of the rate of breakdown of seed coat impermeability was evaluated in a cross between two subterranean clover (Trifolium subrerruneum L.) cultivars. The rate of breakdown was found to be quantitatively inherited and of medium to high heritability, due mainly to additive effects. No highly significant correlations were found between rate of breakdown and time to flowering or any seed characters; stipule and calyx markings were found to be inherited independently of rate of breakdown. Consequently, none of these characters would be useful as selection markers in breeding to alter the rate of breakdown of impermeability.
