On the basis of Fresnel's equations, properties of infrared specular reflectance are analyzed with respect to organic materials which are weakly absorbing in the sense of theory. It is shown that the average reflectance and the amplitude of spectral features can be explained by considering the refractive index alone as long as perpendicular polarization is employed. For parallel polarization the inversion of the spectral features beyond the Brewster angle is correctly predicted in this way, whereas for quantitative evaluation the influence of absorption cannot be neglected. Experimental aspects are discussed.
