The spectra of the title compounds have been recorded and interpreted. On this basis, the structures of the anhydrous compounds Be(OOCH)\*, Be(OOCMe),, Zn(OOCMe), are predicted to have tetrahedral coordination with the carboxylate ions acting as bidentate ligands.

The generation of singlet oxygen by a photochemical pathway, involving the excited state of a pentaammine Ru(II) complex ,:ontaining an N-substituted 4-cyanopyridine ligand and molecular oxygen in aqueous solution, is reported in this work. A :wo-step degradation process occurs by virtue of the acti
