✦ Synopsis
Infrared absorption spectra of Ar-CO mivturcs sprzycd onto D C&r plate at liquid-helium temperature have ken recorded over a wide range of deposition conditions (temperature, rate, M/R ratio) and recording temperatures. Spectra of samples deposited at 6°K show that the 2138.4 cm -' line should bc attributed to monomeric CO. On the o&her hand, double doping experiments with Hz0 give evidence that the 2348.8 cm-* line is due to a CO-520 species, in disagreement with previous assignments. Furthermore the reversible temperattlre dependence of the 2138.4 cm-' feature suggests that isolated CO molecules are librnting in their cage.
