✦ Synopsis


Temperature-dependent infrared refleetivity of ceramic samples of YBa~Cu4Os and substituted YBa2Cu+Os are presented. Substitutions include rare ear'& ions for Y, and part substitutions of Zn for Cu, Ca for Y and La for Ba. It is observed that the phonon near 300 cm "t softens as the temperature is lowered and that the softening begins well above T,. The magnitude of the softening and the softening onset temperature change with T, reflecting a dependence on the hole concentration.
