✦ Synopsis

Thevibrationalener~p distributionof COa product moleculcrproduced by UVphotolysisof pyruvic acid (CHsCOCOOH) has been studied with ;Ln infrared diode laser, absorption probe technique. This csperimental method provides a lOOOO-fold improvement in spectral resolution over infrared fluorescence techniques used to study dynamic molecular processes. The CO1 produced by Photodissociation XIS found to have significant Population in the 01'0 first excited ~2 bendi= level. The population of the OO"l first excited stretching level was less than one tenth thnt of 01'0 rend below the detection limir for the present apparatus.
