Abstract
Precise measurements were made of the dichroic ratios of several absorption bands of α‐form poly‐γ‐benzyl‐L‐glutamate. From the results obtained, directions were determined for the transition moments of these bands, and possible orientations are given for the peptide, ester, and phenyl groups in the polymer with respect to its fiber axis. On the basis of these orientations a model is proposed for the molecular conformation of this polypeptide.
