โœฆ Synopsis

In addition to acting as an oxygen transfer enhancer, n-hexadecane plays an important role in dominating the mycelial morphology of Penicillium chrysogenum in a submerged penicillin fermentation.

The cell morphology is related to the timing of adding nhexadecane to the culture, n-Hexadecane also has a function of suppressing foaming and thus can be employed as an antifoam agent in the fermentation.
