The influence of the crown ether concentration on the reaction rate constants and the equilibrium constant in anionic (butoxymethy1)oxirane polymerization was studied. Polymerizations of (phenoxymethy1)oxirane and (2-(9-~arbazoyl)ethoxymethyl)oxirane were carried out for the sake of comparison. The

β¦ Synopsis
The propagation rate constant, k , , was determined for the polymerization of (phenoxy-methy1)oxirane (2,3-epoxypropyl phenyl ether) initiated by potassium tert-butoxide in the presence of various crown ethers: 12-crown-4,15-crown-5,18-crown-6, dicyclohexano-l8-crown-6, dicyclohexano-24-crown-8, dibenzo-18-crown-6 and dibenzo-24-crown-8. The equation correlating k, with complexation constants, K , , of the crown ethers was derived.

The influence of 12-crown-4, 15-crown-5, 18-crown-6, dicyclohexano-18-crown-6 and dicyclohexano-24-crown-8 on the propylene oxide polymerization with potassium hydride was studied. The highest reaction rate was obtained in the presence of 18-crown-6 or dicyclohexano-18-crown-6. The use of dicyclohex
